Happier You: 4 Tips to Healthier Living
With the start of every new year, people across the globe take advantage of the opportunity to begin again with a fresh start. One of the most common resolutions includes setting goals for leading happier, healthier lives. What is “healthy living” exactly? It can be a broad term that encompasses many things, so we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite healthy living tips that we believe are an essential part of making the pipedream of living a healthy life a practical reality.
- Become a Morning Person: Everyone’s heard the old saying, “the early bird gets the worm,” and there is certainly some truth to that. Studies have shown that early risers who dedicate time to themselves in the morning before rushing off to work tend to be more productive, are more self-disciplined, and feel a greater sense of satisfaction.
- Practice Mindfulness: To be mindful means to be aware, not just of thoughts, but of the senses as well. A great way to start being more mindful is by shifting the focus away from everyday worries and over to the little things we often take for granted. The flowers, the trees, and even our breath can be powerful reminders that we are alive. The simple awareness of being alive is an excellent stress reliever and helps to remind us of what’s really important.
- Seek Nourishment: It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, so much so that we tend to forget about being good to our bodies. Look for new ways to nourish the physical being. Whether it’s signing up for a new yoga class or replacing unhealthy dietary habits with something more nutritious, there are little hundreds – if not thousands – of ways to find enriching nourishment to enhance the mind, body, and soul.
- Be Grateful: Set aside some time each day to think about the many things deserving of our gratitude. It doesn’t matter if it’s something big or something small. When we bask in genuine appreciation for the world, that energy is highly contagious. Petty thoughts and worries are quickly replaced with feelings of being thankful, and when you’re feeling appreciative, the people around you will start to feel good, too.
